Connection
Plaster, cotton cord, 2021
Community centered sculptural installation located in Austin Strraubel International Airport in Green Bay, WI
Connection centers around themes of community, relationships, and care. The plaster cast hands emerging from the wall represent those offering and receiving care, while the cord highlights their connection. The creation of this installation was highly collaborative, and it features plaster casts made from hand molds of community volunteers who span across gender, age, race, and ability. The cotton cord is made of sections that were individually knotted by other community members. Hansen hopes this piece will inspire others to consider the connection we all have to each other, the need for community care, and the collaborations that make our community come together. Everyone plays a part.
This piece is installed in Terminal A at Austin Straubel International Airport in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Its creation was supported by The Art Garage, Titletown, and Austin Straubel International Airport
